Business SMS/Text on 3CX

WHAT IS BUSINESS SMS?

SMS is the abbreviation for short message service which is transmitted in the form of text messaging sent over a cellular network. SMS or Text could include alpha or numeric messages, but today, SMS messages could also include sending and receiving photos, videos, PDF files, links, or even .VCF contact information file over your cellular network.

Business SMS or SMS for business is texting using your business phone number. What this means is to text-enable your numbers (main phone line, direct line/DID or even your toll-free number) so that your customers, users, business colleagues/affiliates can send text to your business phone numbers.

WHY BUSINESS SMS

Surprisingly, statistics say that over 50% of adult consumers would rather text than call and over 50% are already using text for business purposes. You may not realize, but the delivery person for your water cooler is probably already texting your main number each time he replenishes your water cooler bottles. And you may be surprised that your customers are probably already trying to text your main number. So why Business SMS? The biggest reason for Business SMS is because customers would rather text you than call you. For the business owner, would you really want your employees giving out their personal cell phone numbers?  It becomes an issue when they leave the company and taking that customer contact to their next job which could be your competitor.  Business SMS allows the business owner to control the messaging between the customer and the employee the way business email is managed.

Here are other uses for Business SMS:

  • Send text appointments to your customers

  • Receive text messages from your customers who need to place an order

  • Send and Receive text messages to your mobile staff

  • Communicate instantly with your customers who need updates on
their mortgage, auto loan, other updates and information, etc.

  • Send and receive text updates from your partners and affiliates

Business SMS on 3CX

According to How Stuff Works, when someone tries to call you, the (cell) tower sends your phone a message over the control channel set up on your phone that also provides the pathway for SMS messages. When a friend sends you an SMS message, the message flows through the SMS service center, then to the tower, and the tower sends the message to your phone as a little packet of data on the control channel. 3CX is a PBX software and SMS does not reside on the software itself. SMS flows thru the cellular communication channels, therefore, Business SMS is a function that transmits thru the SIP trunk, the communication access used for VoIP. Mapping a user’s email address to the direct phone number is the way to handle Business SMS on 3CX.
